The heart of our curriculum is each child's innate curiosity and love of learning. Playing in and exploring God's marvelous creation is each child's "work and research." Wonder and excitement are ever present as children explore and experiment to learn about themselves, their families, friends and neighbors near by and around the world.

Our teachers partner with the children in their exploration and treasure the ideas they generate.

Teachers create an intriguing environment to foster exploration and creativity. The classroom becomes a laboratory for the child's curiosities, investigations and quest for knowledge. Key areas of focus include:

Language / Literacy

Math

Science

Music

Art

Physical Education / Outside Play

Spanish for Pre-Kindergarten
and Kindergarten

An after school enrichment program is also available for Threes, Fours, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten

Sample of Daily Activities

Circle Time fosters self-expression, listening to others and group problem solving.

Reading / Story Time focuses on reading appreciation, print recognition, vocabulary development, event memory, auditory discrimination, thought and plot development.

Music supports music appreciation, enjoying music as worship and self expression.

Centers enhance themes and critical thinking, practicing skills and working together. Centers are places to do further work and play in the key focus areas of language/literacy, math, science, social studies, music, art and physical education.

Art supports creative expression and art appreciation. In addition, art serves as documentation to share "the new process" with the child's family. Children learn from revisiting their art and completed projects to look for new ideas or further exploration and creativity.

Chapel is held weekly and in partnership with The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Children learn about God's love for all people, the gifts of the spirit and the Church calendar. They celebrate and honor the special seasons and holidays. Children are active participants in the Chapel services.

Physical Education / Outside Play The playground serves as an extension to the classroom where children continue their exploration. Children develop skills in running, jumping and skipping and spend time in individual and small group activities. Outside play helps foster a positive attitude regarding movement and exercise.

Special Opportunities Good Shepherd Episcopal School enhances its' curriculum with family members, friends and neighbors who are specialists in a particular field and come to enrich the curriculum. Field trips are also integrated to reinforce our learning objectives.

We host several events throughout the year that provide additional unique learning opportunities, including Arts Around the School Week and the Kindergartners' special "Into the Woods" program.
